Extreme PP
Does anyone do any extreme PP? I mean, beyond just the basic levels, curves etc. Extreme can be in your own mind...glamour (actually adding makeup), retouch (removing cracks and repairing stains from old photos), modifications (kind of like compositions, but adding elements to change the picture i.e. taking a beater car and turning it in to a hot rod).
I LOVE working on glamour. I finally have a decent camera so I hope to get more work done on my wife. I have the eyeliner and mascara down pat. I'll post some work on my flickr, but it will be private so you'll have to be my "friend".
Or if anyone wants some work done I would love to do it. I need practice on blush and lips. I just don't understand where it goes or how it goes on the face. My wife rarely wears makeup and it's normally eyes, lips, and whatever that stuff is to just even out your face color. I'm a guy, what can I say!?
I have actually been considering taking some beauty classes since this is my favorite PP to do.

Re: Extreme PP
I have not tried this yet. Right now I'm just trying to get more technically correct pictures and if not, use a few moments to freshen them up in Photoshop! Some pictures I KNOW are touched up, but I don't know how to do it. It's a look to the skin (looks like porcelan - sp??) and the eyes twinkle just a little too much to be straight out of the camera. The problem is, most photographers don't cop to doing it, or if they do - they don't share what they do. Trade secrets and all - but I'm not trying to rival them - just get my pictures for my family better!

Re: Extreme PP
I'm sure you'll believe this, but a lot of "pro" editors shun the porcelain look. It's not a natural look.
Oh i totally understand working on getting the best shot possible, less PP work, plus the pride in knowing you got the perfect look SOOC. A little touch up is always nice too. I don't like the unnatural look. I strive to make my work as real as possible, when it's my work. Some people like that overdone look.
I have a pic up on my flickr, but like I said, you have to be my friend. It's private for friends only. www.flickr.com/rohape
I have a couple tuts on there too. Well kind of tuts, composted screen shots.
There's another lady on GF who does retouch as her work, I'll have to look.

Re: Extreme PP
I am on I love photography and every photographer does agree that all pics need some Ps, even if it is just sharpening. They all do say that you need minimal ps with a correct/technically done picture.
I do play with textures, bw, actions and such but mainly do just the basic levels, color balance, usm on my pics.

Re: Extreme PP
I just wanted to add that I hate the "plastic look" or "alien" eyes. I don't mind a bit of skin smoothing and would love to learn the technique and I like a bit of eye pop/sparkle but more true to life.

Re: Extreme PP
I agree with you on all points.
Skin smoothing is really simple. There are some pics that actually benefit from that porcelain look.
If your interested I can put some links up.

Re: Extreme PP
I can see where it is beneficial. I would love some links.
This year I am hoping to take the step into shooting RAW instead of jpeg. I would also love to get a noiseware program.

Re: Extreme PP
Thanks for all the links.
I guess what scares me is not knowing how RAW works in editing. I do have adobe CS2, is that all I need? I always here about people having problems with their program accepting RAW files.

Re: Extreme PP
I have CS3 and haven't had any issues with Adobe RAW.
I had no clue how to use Adobe RAW. I just opened it and started playing.
