Sony....
I LOVE Canon so I'm going to say Canon.
Either way (Canon or Nikon) I think you'll be pleased which ever you choose. Sony just doesn't have a great variety of lenses and the lenses they do have are quite pricey. There are some happy Sony users out there, but I think you'd have a better chance of finding a happy Canon or Nikon user.
Also, try this website for reviews of all Canons...I mean cameras.

Congrats! What lens size are you looking at?
I'm only good for Canon and general photography.

I know nothing about Sony. I would assume they would have a similar lens to the other "kit" lenses out there such as 75-200mm. If you looking for more along the lines of closer to closer then maybe 100-300mm. What are you going to be photographing most of the time?

I would REALLY like to get into weddings and personal photographs, but would like to have a lens that will zoom in on stuff if I want to. I currently have a 18-70, which is what came with it.
I know nothing right now, but Im a quick learner.

I would suggest getting a book about wedding photography. Start researching what flashes you can get for your camera. Radio transmitters for portrait/studio work. I have come to the realization that I won't be shooting people. I'm just not a people person. Like I told my wife last night "I like nature more than I like people".
That being said I have a book that I recommend called "Skin" by Lee Varis. I can either sell you mine or you can find it. I have it right now only because I LOVE working on skin. Retouching. I just like the highlights and shadows, the texture of it. It's pretty neat how you can change the look of someone's face just be removing a shadow here, adding a highlight there.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
